Chinioti Furniture — Pakistan's Most Intricate Woodworking Tradition

Ask any Pakistani furniture expert which city produces the finest woodwork in the country and the answer is almost always the same: Chiniot. This small city in Punjab has been producing extraordinarily intricate hand-carved furniture for hundreds of years, and its craft tradition is recognised globally.

What Is Chinioti Furniture?

Chinioti furniture refers to handcrafted wooden furniture and decorative pieces made using the traditional carving style originating from Chiniot, Punjab. The style is characterised by dense, deeply cut floral and geometric patterns covering entire surfaces of the wood, with no area left plain. The effect is richly ornate and entirely unlike mass-produced furniture.

What Wood Is Used?

Sheesham (Rosewood) is the traditional wood of choice for Chinioti craftsmen. Its density allows for deep, precise carving without cracking. The grain and colour of Sheesham also complement the carved patterns beautifully once polished.

What Pieces Feature Chinioti Work?

At Kraft Store, several collections feature traditional Chinioti carving and Jharoka work:

How Is Chinioti Carving Done?

Chinioti carving is done entirely by hand using a set of traditional chisels and gouges. A craftsman draws the pattern directly onto the wood surface, then carves layer by layer to create depth and relief. A single piece can take days or weeks to complete depending on complexity.

All Kraft Store Chinioti pieces are handcrafted in Pakistan. Cash on delivery available across Pakistan.
